Install
Start with an inspectable local store
These steps create the store, then let you check a folder before choosing any additional integrations.
Requirements
| Node.js | 20 or newer |
|---|---|
| Operating system | macOS for the automatic nightly launchd job |
| Claude Code CLI | Installed and logged in for duplicate and contradiction judgments |
| Python 3 | Required for the memory checkup step |
| Other platforms | Core CLI and MCP server run where Node.js runs; schedule daemon-run yourself |
Commands
Install, initialize, inspect
npm i -g nautli
nautli init
nautli checkup ~/notes
Changes
Files and settings you control
| File or setting | What changes | How to undo it |
|---|---|---|
~/.nautli/ | init creates the local store, config, index, and reports here | Back up anything you need, then remove this directory |
~/.claude.json | MCP registration is added only when you enable Claude Code integration | claude mcp remove -s user nautli |
~/.claude/CLAUDE.md | One marked nautli instruction block is added only when enabled | nautli setup --step remove-instructions |
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.nautli.daemon.plist | The nightly macOS job is added only when enabled | nautli setup --step uninstall-daemon |
Cursor mcp.json | nautli provides a snippet; you paste it manually | Remove the nautli entry you added |
The three commands above create only ~/.nautli. Integrations and the nightly job require separate opt-in setup steps.
Safe test
Try an empty folder first
nautli checkup ./empty-testUse an empty folder to inspect the result shape before pointing nautli at personal or work notes.
If something blocks you
Run nautli doctor, then share its non-sensitive result in GitHub Issues or ask in Discord.
